J.Costa upgrade

Well I have spent me money and bought the new J.Costa variator plus rollers and a mallosi kevlar belt plus a new yamharuso??? exhuast system to with it.

I had to spend the money my accountant said so $1700 later that should keep me happy (this if they make any difference) for another year till someone brings out a bigger bike for me to play with...

I picked the worst day to ride trhe 200k's to the big smoke, the trip to Perth was long cold and soooo wet but I made it on time.

Gave them all the bits and took off on the loaner, another TMax 500 (a blue one) I do love th fact they have a loaner sitting there all warmed up waiting for you.

I rode off in to the rain again caught up with a few wholesalers and had lunch with one of my sons.. 6 hours later they rang all finished. so rode back to Freo.. by this time it was getting late and my big concern was that in winter it get dark here around 5:15 and unlike you people in the upper hemisphere the sun goes down very quickly here, we don't get any sort of twilight, summer or winter its light then dark all in about 3 to 4 minutes.

When I picked the bike up the TMax mechanic rode the bike for testing and all he said was "*WOW* what a buzz.. you wont need to buy a 750 with the J.Costa.. you be very careful as how you use the throttle it has now changed..".. I thought "gimme me me bike"...

Not sure who brought it up about replacing the exhaust on the TMax and that you will require re-mapping so I asked him if it was required..now you must understand these blokes race the TMax here now so I thought if anyone would know its this bloke.

He said that No you wont need to the ECU in the TMax was the best he has seen so far in any scooter.. it will cope with most any changes with the exhaust.. Yamaha had allowed that being a sports scoot that changes will happen...

He also said that when they first started to race them they too changed the exhaust and they too thought that re-mapping would be required but after testing they found the TMax ECU sorted things out all by itself.

Anyways back to the J.Costa...At 4:45pm I was off 200k to go.. rain beating down and strong winds.. I took it real easy with the bike throttle.. I noticed that the engine sound has changed.. louder now than before.. growlier not sure why new belt?? New variator?? Wasn't a bad sound just louder...

Took it easy while riding through the Fremantle City built up areas .. .. someone mentioned in another forum that the throttle on the TMax was very touchy and I agreed it was that is until you learn how to control it... well this sorts that problem out... this time you have a lot more play... after about three or four street lights I had it down pat.

As I reached the out skirts I thought "Lets try it" WOWEEEEeeeee threw me back into the seat front came up and we are off.. WAAA HOOO .. magic...

Holy smoke.. I was wet and tired and feeling great all at the one time.. I took it easy the first hundred k's as the side wind was really bad it was dark and the rain was coming at me head on..

Arrived in the city of Mandurah stopped and had a hot coffee filled up the bike and off again.. as I left I tried the bike again .. *YaaaHooo* same same .. what a blast.. Thats was about it for the next 100k's I took it easy again the weather had me riding around 80kph the rain and wind was so bad.. but I got home ok.... a little wet around the ankles but very happy

Sounds like you have your own little Transformer there. Have fun and let us know how it has affected your fuel consumption.

I am doing that and I have to do it again, was getting 24.9k per litre thats
UK 70.34 Miles per gallon
US 58.57 Miles per gallon

I rode home from perth and filled tank in Mandurha the fuel consumtion has improved.. 28.3kpl or
UK 79.94 gpm
US 66.57 gpm

Maybe I have my sums wrong will check that again it seems to have improved.. I hope so

1 uk gallon is 4.452 litres. If you was getting that figure you must be riding slower than me, and no one rides slower than me.

No the first is right and I ride 80k's to 110ks most of the time, the 28+ I'm not sure off as I still have to check that out as I already said.. but I was cold wet and it was dark so I might have noted the wrong numbers, (which I rarely do as I have a head for numbers) but again.. I will check that out again.. but the 24.9 is correct as thats what I always get on the TMax.. and I don't ride slow I just ride sensibly .. though that may change now

I had the Yushumara exhaust fitted.. its so bloody loud!! it comes with a low noise baffle.. that had to be fitted as the pillion said she would not be "The Pillion" with all that noise.. *sighs*

Anyway it sounds great

The J.Costa is the best mod .. I have run it in for 500k's and now am enjoying it.. it quick of the mark, the revs are high at first then it settles down to a purr.. though now with the exhaust its more of a deep growl.. so the bike lives for another year.. have no idea about the top end as I'm just not interested in going fast.. the J.Costa has seen an improvement to the fuel consumption will let you know once I have done three tests as I did have to ride it more *cough* sedately while running it in.. and now with the exhaust things may change again.. am still getting around the 300k's to the tank..

I fitted the baffle so now the boss is as happy as any woman can be till she find something else to upset about ...

And it still sounds sweet .. so all is well
