Cheers, Phil!

Here are some more pics.

It's called "The Gnu" and, yeah, I like it lots so far. In fact its a bloody shame I couldn't get a test ride on one two months ago as it would have made the decision process a whole lot easier. Very Happy

Ged
Nice Triumph, with funny badges on it. Some US western high bars might suit it (if you have any slack on the cables) and of course a Givi 4 point mounted screen, Norman Hyde fits them on his Triumphs.
Did you look into why the Bonnevilles give poor fuel consumption compared to similar bikes. The W800 should be better because it could not be any worse.
Nice to have a new bike for a change, roll on running it in, if it is not really in tune now, its just because they require miles on them before the factory settings are correct, things get better.
Enjoy
Regards
Dave

I think one of the only issues with the old 650 was that the higher bars didn't suit it. The bars on the 800 are just right for me and I'm keeping it screen-less (at least until next Winter) but I dare say the same Givi will fit so I'll have a look then.

I've spent some time today taking off bits (the sidepanels are metal, just as an aside Shocked ) and painting everything accessible with ACF50. I've also fitted a couple of retro mudflaps, one to keep crap off the motor and one to keep it off me. Whist I was mutilating with power tools (ie.drilling the front guard) I took the hideous advert banner off the bottom of the number plate with my Dremel. Very Happy

I'll monitor consumption when I have run it in as I'm over-using the gears through the run in period. What's happening with the Bonnie consumption I can't think as their fuel injection was light years ahead of the Japs years back. I remember my Sprint RS returning around 55 mpg on one run with my mate's Firestorm which returned about 30 mpg on the same journey.

That looks like a proper motorcycle and harks back to the 60's. I like it a lot but why do they change from 650cc to 800cc and above. I used to ride a Triumph 110 Bath Tub and it went like stink. I suppose I must be behind the times.

Nice one Ged!

Stock answer is to keep up with ever tightening emissions regs, Brian.

The 800 is probably no more powerful than the old 650 but needs to be 800cc and fuel injected now to make the same horses.

Thanks for that Ged, I must admit that looking at it from that point of view did not occur. We learn something new each day.

Lovely looking bike, Ged, and shares in Scottoil F365 / ACF would seem a wise move if it's to remain so gleaming all year round, eh? Wink

I like how they've remained true to the original W1. Clever.

Safe roads!

Yeah it is really nicely done, Keith.

I have set myself some ground rules for this one.

1. It's staying (if it behaves itself generally) If i want anything else smaller it'll be in addition to this one.
2. I'm not being precious about it. It will get used in all weathers.
3. It'll be kept "oily rag & Mr Sheen" clean, not "solvol/Meguairs" clean

I'm a big fan of both ACF50 and FS365 and Wemoto down the road sell both to me at a discount so I'm sorted!

The bike has had an initial showering of ACF50 and a wipe down so it's no longer showroom immaculate.

562 miles in a day today and all is well!

(NB: Not a typo: five hundred and sixty two)

That funny looking seat is actually the best one I've ever had on any bike in the last 32 years!

I'm loving this bike a lot! Very Happy
