PostSubject: Could'nt Lift It Up   Tue Apr 07, 2009 11:32 am

The Hog went down outside my garage last week,i was tinkering around,it made a right old thump.I phoned up the insurance Brokers(Bikesure) Tuesday, they put me through to the insurance company(Highway Direct)who were very good and took all the details over the phone,so no more forms to fill out,i was told their nominated repairer will be in touch, within the hour they were.

A motorcycle repair company from Shepperton Middlesex called 4th Dimension http://www.4th-d.co.uk/ not a great web site contacted me and arranged to collect the bike on Thursday,it went away in the back of a high top transit,a bit of a tight fit as there was already a sportster in the back Cool Had a phone call Friday to tell me what was damaged.Front fairing, chrome skull brake lever, chrome skull throttle grip, chrome skull footbrake lever, chrome skull riders foot plate,r/h/s chrome engine protection bar,r/h/s leg fairing,r/h/s chrome panneir protection rails,r/h/s pannier, top box.....these are all to be replaced with new. There is a 8-12 week delivery time from the States for fairings, panniers and top box in blue,so the assessor has given the ok for to obtain the parts in other colours(should speed up the return of my bike) then spray them the same Candy Blue as the rest of my bike,i was'nt totally happy with this.

The man on the phone explained that he is the assessor as well as a workshop manager and a biker,if he aint happy,it wont leave the workshop, the garage is Harley approved and does all manner of custom jobs on bikes including a lot of paint work,i may try to get an invite down there just to see the set-up and of course if i aint happy when its delivered back to me,it'll stay on the truck.

I have my no claims bonus protected, but my excess is a monkey, still the repair bill is £3,700.00

This will be my first insurance claim for any bike....had one claim on the car 20 years ago and never claimed from my home insurance.

I had to wait for a nieghbour to come home to give me a hand to put the beast back on her feet 412kg which is about a 3/4 ton

Bob,

Did'nt think to check the road,i dare say if its damaged the council will have to fight the insurance company:D

I see it going over and have known other Harley owners injure themselves by grabbing the bike and trying to stop it,once it gets to a certain point you just have to let it go and make sure you get your legs and arms out of the way.

Steve, time to get rid if you can't get it up any longer.
Are you still on the sick? If not, go on it.

Yes Dave, still off sick,i am due to return to work 5th May.

Got to be honest, the bike going down was down to my stupidity in the main, but thank gawd for insurance and no claims bonus being protected Very Happy

I would change if it were to much for me,my friend Pauline is looking to change her Sportster 1200 low for that reason, its to much for her ,she's only 5"3"and now her hip is starting to play up,so she has trouble getting her leg over Cool

We are looking to get her a Vespa GT300,but i think a GT250 should do for her and as the 300cc is on the market any dealers with 250's might be doing some nice deals. If she got a 250 it'll be more than capable of keeping up with her husband and myself on our Hogs

Very Happy The 250 is more than capable and is light and easy to move about, the 300 gives a bit more zip off the line but not enough to pay extra for Wink

I did ask a Piaggio mechanic which model he considered the best scooter in the range, thinking he would say ''an X9'', but his reply was the Vespa 250GTS.
Don't know why he did not rate the 300 higher than the 250.
Anyway FWIW go for a 250GTS if you can find a new or good second hand one.

If you fancy a Midweek ride on a sunny day, I can make most day's, being in my last year of youth (50's), I now ride down to Broadstairs using the same route each time (great roads) for dinner and a pint.

Thats exactly my thoughts,is it the same 250 engine as in the X9 evo?

I think she needs a gentle nudge to get the Sportster on ebay,I doubt a piaggio dealer is gonna want to any sort of exchange deal.
