| I have just been emailed that Red Light sensors and speed traps have been installed on Holes Bay Road Poole.
The significance is that it is the access to Poole for bike night every Tuesday. Thousands of bikes of all breeds turn out, a very popular meeting down this neck of the woods.
The Red Light and speed sensors are at the southern end by the massive Asda store.

| Those bikes are a bit expensive, what is a red light, we have one in Chatham, but it's not the same thing, although cars travel at walking pace through it. | |

| I believe the Red Light sensor are for vehicles running red lights, they are linked to cameras that take your image.
The speed sensors are separate and from what I gather detect average speeds, my source said the papers say they are the first in the country to be installed so info is sketchy at the moment. (The speed limit on that stretch of road is 30mph)
The reason I posted, is Poole hosts one of the biggest bike meetings on Tuesday nights throughout the summer. The whole of the quay side is allocated to bike parking and the road closed. For £1 it's a good evenings show/event/meeting/whatever!

In all the years I have lived here I have never made Poole on a Tuesday. It sounds like a good plan Terry, the chips on the quay side are reported to be very nice. With regards the lights, Poole and Bournemouth have extended the Red light speed system throughout the area.

| Speed cameras and non compliance cameras at traffic lights are something I support. In my part of the UK (Brum) I never move from t/lights until they are green and checking that it is clear. I get a few beepers behind me but so many drivers hereabouts deliberately speed up on amber it is not safe to assume green means it's safe to proceed. | |

| I agree with Derek on this one. If people did not act stupid at traffic lights then there would be no need for extra measures (cameras) to be added to our already over signed and protected roads. BrianG | |

| Instant Green here, no amber. It works well although, in the car, there's a tendency to stay in gear and ride the clutch. I favour cameras at traffic lights; jumping reds is far more dangerous than going a bit too fast on dual carriageways as far as I'm concerned. | |

| We have these here now on one of our major freeways, they caught over 4,000 with in the two months with an average speed of 15k's over which works out to roughly $150 each and one/two demerit point.. they will pay for themselves in no time.. With the holiday season now its double fines and double demerit points | |

Totally agree, the difference with these traffic lights, they are linked to a average speed system. As most bikers leap away from lights, it would be easy to get caught out even when launching from a legal green. Whilst we are all saints when riding, I would hate someone to get out by the wiliness of the government greed mill.
